Is there any software(freeware) to reduce the size of avi files from 4+GB to under 1GB?

Hi, I don't think there is a freeware can reduce the size of avi files from 4+GB to under 1GB. Because, I have tried many freewares, but all of them failed. Now, I am using a good and inexpensive software RZ Video Converter which can customize the target videos' size by setting the target bitrate, lower bitrat lower size, such as customize 4gb avi files to 1gb avi files, etc. Yahoo or google search and download RZ Video Converter.
